Boots is growing up! He's five months old and over 20 pounds. He lost all of his baby teeth this month and now has a full set of adult teeth. With all of his shots now completed we've been able to go to more places with him on his own four paws to explore the world. First grooming appointment is in the books - he did great! We also work weekly with other local puppies as we all practice obedience cues together and have some fun play time. We are starting to work on items for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test which we hope to take in January.
This month we are focused on practicing behaviors in stores, at parks, around other dogs and really trying to generalize behaviors. Have you tried asking your dog to sit from a sitting position yourself? How about if you turn around and say it or put your arms in the air? Does he look confused? Puppies don't naturally generalize things so it's our job to teach them sit means sit no matter where we are or what position we are in. Try it this week and see how your puppy does! Boots will be practicing right along with you.
